ELAN TAMARA MY EYES

Today, East London singer, songwriter and composer Elan Tamara releases instant classic ‘My Eyes’ via Kwes’ record label Bokkle. Previously, Tamara has performed with the likes of Toro Y Moi and Tirzah, providing her deft keyboard skills. Although her current endeavours has led the Walthamstow resident to collaborate with Georgia, heard here on percussion, and Kwes who wields production duties as well as the bass. The wealth of talent involved in creating ‘My Eyes’ has made something really special. For example, Tamara has put her studies of ethnomusicology straight into the composition, which is “musically inspired by Afro Cuban music, Steve Reich, Brian Wilson and Balinese gamelan" in a framework that is equal parts contemporary and experimental. Speaking about the emotional motivation behind ‘My Eyes’, Tamara also reveals that it’s a sign about “the highs and lows of a long distance relationship she was in at the time/not being able to spend time with loved ones.” - Hannah Thacker   [Photo credit: Samuel J Butt]
